The trees around me serve the Lord by instructing and teaching me different perspectives. Many of them are the perspectives of heaven. Some of them are just helpful because it is good to see a thing from another point of view.
Recently I was going to a soccer game. It was a beautiful day. I felt life surging through me as I moved away from the car and towards the field where the game would be played.
I was surprised by a maple greeting me.
Good day to you, he said. Top of the day! He continued with some thoughts that puzzled me. Wishing you well on your game today..I hope you do well!
And I walked past.
And thought, what the heck was that?
Was the tree on my ‘side’?
That didn’t resonate.
Does he then wish all who play the best? That seemed more like him. For those who have eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart that understands, his words are available as strength and joy.
Okay, and then my grid expanded and I heard the corporate wisdom from the trees in that place.
We rejoice whenever good comes! We delight in the joy of others. There is enough joy for us all!
And I realized- there is nothing like competition between trees! They fight for life, but not against each other. They are all on the same side! Light and life!
I pondered this as I watched the game that followed.
What would a game be like if everyone was on the same side and rejoiced when good happened to others, as others rejoiced when good happens to them?
And I think I got a foretaste of heaven today, as the perspective of the trees took me into the eternality of my future. Selah.
